Plenty to explore…
Right on the ranch...
Hike up Big Boulder Creek and jump in to cool off. The creek basin is closed to vehicles so its like having your own park, shared only by deer, elk and an amazing assortment of migratory birds. We’ll tell you how to get to one of our secret places — Three Dog Falls.

Or hike up our east slope — it’s steep in places but the reward is found in fantastic views of the Big Boulder Creek and Middle Fork basins.

...and nearby
The Middle Fork John Day River is right across the road from the ranch, and public access, on foot, is allowed on property managed by our neighbor, The Nature Conservancy.

Or take a short easy drive 15 miles from ranch to Indian Rock Lookout. A great picnic location, it’s staffed summer and fall with attendants eager for company.

Go 15 miles the other way to Magone Lake, created by a landslide formation. It features a campground, shady picnic sites, and easy trail around lake. It’s great for fishing or just a swim on a hot summer day.

For an easy day trip, venture into Prairie City and then south to the trailhead for Strawberry Lake, an alpine lake high in the crater of Strawberry Peak. The trail is about one mile — with spectacular scenery along the way and at the lake.
