Kids on Horses

For a memorable experience, put your kids into the saddle and let them find out what cowboying is all about. (We even sneak adults on.)

Meet our retired ranch horses and George and Gracie, the donkeys. Supervised clinics are available on advance reservation to give children a sample of cowboy and cowgirl life. (Sorry, trail rides aren’t available now as our geldings have aged and have earned a rest.)

In our clinics, we’ll introduce children to the world of ranch horses. They will help brush down the horses and saddle ’em up. They will learn how to speak to a horse to make friends. And they’ll learn no one goes on a horse without a helmet.

Ready to go? We mount up children on a suitable horse, showing them how to use that saddle horn and stirrups. They head to the round pen, where they get the feel of a horse under saddle, carefully lead by one of our ranch folks. Depending on age and comfort, riders get a chance at the reins themselves. When it’s over, young riders will be surprised with a custom-made certificate making them an Honorary Cowhand at Boulder Creek Ranch!

Want to bring your own horse and go explore? We can provide temporary corrals and access to water to use Boulder Creek Ranch as a base camp for your own exploring.

Horse Clinics: $50 for the first hour per person, $35 per hour after that.

Horse Camp: $20 per day.

Schedule: Call for availability and to schedule this memorable time.

Bicycling

Boulder Creek Ranch is situated along what is becoming one of America’s premier bicycle riding routes – The Old West Scenic Bikeway.

This loop route takes you through a variety of country — along rivers, along cattle ranches, and a few climbs just to keep you in shape.

Boulder Creek Ranch is an ideal overnight stop along this route. We stock emergency bike repair supplies, floor pumps and the spare tubes.

After a day of pedaling, the ranch offers wonderful afternoon diversions. Hike up Big Boulder Creek and wade on in. Sit in the shade at the cabin and snooze, read, or just watch the animals.

We can handle groups that want to use the cabin, the sheep wagon and even pitch a tent. We have RV hookups for those all-important support vehicles. Riders also have found Boulder Creek Ranch a good place to stage. Park your vehicle here, jump in the saddle and leave any worry behind.

The owners are experienced cyclists, so we can help you with plenty of information about riding in this country – recommended stops, the grade on the climbs you’ll face, where you’ll need to stock extra water. All that is just a call away, so grab your bike and prepare for one of the best cycling experiences of your life.
